Patrick Taylor operates Taylor Pottery in Highlands, North Carolina, where he produces functional stoneware. He has been involved in studio pottery and sculpture for thirty years and has been a juried member of the former Georgia Designer Craftsman and the Georgia Mountain Crafts Associations. He is a current member and exhibiting artist of the Georgia Heritage Center for the Arts at Tallulah Falls. Prior to moving to North Carolina, Taylor was the founding Chair of the Department of Visual Arts at Kennesaw State University. He retired from Kennesaw in 1999, after seventeen years of service. Currently, he is a professor and the Chair of the Art Department at Piedmont College where he teaches ceramics, sculpture and art education. Taylor’s work is in numerous private and corporate collections including King and Spalding Law Firm of Atlanta. For the past several years, he has been studying pottery and ceramic artists of the Appalachian region. His recent article in Clay Times Magazine was on the wood firing technique of Sid Luck, a well known 5th generation potter from North Carolina. He serves on several boards of art organizations and is a consultant to the Hambidge Center for the Arts and Sciences. Taylor and his studio are cited in the Craft Trails Guidebook of Western North Carolina published by Handmade in America.
